Mark your calendars for an exciting bicycle-centric art exhibition at Quad City Arts from June 26-August 7. The opening reception takes place Friday evening (6/26) from 6-8:00 PM at the downtown Rock Island gallery.
The next morning (Saturday 6/27) there will be two group rides available:
8:00- Ken Urban will lead a Group D ride from Schwiebert Park. Route will be a combination of bike trails, city streets and rural roads for 35-40 miles.
9:00- Dawn Wolford-Metallo will lead an easy nine mile "Bike & Art Tour". As Quad City Arts gallery manager, she coordinated the development and installation of the Mathias Sculpture installation and several recent sculptures accessible on bike trails. Meet in the Quad City Arts parking lot at 124- 18th Street, Rock Island.
11:30- Both groups will meet back at the QC Arts gallery to view the show and enjoy some light refreshments. Anyone that cannot participate on one of the rides is welcome to meet with the others at the same time.
The exhibition features a collection of photographs taken by Ken Urban while gravel cycling seeking out "Level B" roads in all 99 Iowa counties. Photographs are printed on various media, many displayed on frames crafted in his workshop.
Springfield, Illinois artist/cyclist Jeff Williams is the other featured artist. His colorful works include all aspects of cycling, often with closeups of various bicycle components.
Dean from Wright Cycles will be topping off the show by sharing some vintage and handmade bicycles from his collection.
Quad City Arts is at 1715- 2nd Avenue, Rock Island and is open Mon-Fri 10-5:00, Sat 11-5:00, Sun- closed.
